Most steam flows to flare have very wide ranges and it is not possible to accurately measure them in one line. By using the Conditioning Orifice and Integral Orifice Meters exceptional accuracy was obtained over a wide flow range as well as savings in installed costs, future maintenance, calibration, and operational expenditures. LCY had to meet the EPA regulation over extremely wide flow ranges. There were two main steam lines going to the flare. A 3 in line with 60:1 turn down ratio and a 1 in line with 16:1 turn down. Meters had to be easy to maintain and verify. Pressure and temperature compensation were required to meet the regulation and accuracy requirements. Multiple meters were needed in parallel with each other. The installed meters have lower installed cost and maintenance cost compared to regular orifice plates. The meters can be calibrated in place without sending out and shutting down processes. We achieved compliance with EPA regulation while improving process?
